DESCRIPTION:
The Substitute School Nurse or Medical Assistant provides temporary health services and support to students when the regular school nurse is absent. This role may be filled by a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). The substitute works as a member of the district health services team to administer basic healthcare and to monitor specific student health needs. They work under the direction of a school district nurse and in alignment with district policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide healthcare and interventions to K-12 students as needs arise throughout the school day
- Administer daily and PRN meds as prescribed
- Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions as outlined in their Individual Health Plans
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid if necessary
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation
- Optional opportunity to support students on field trips
REQUIREMENTS:
- Current State of Oregon Licensure as LPN/RN or certification as a CMA or CNA
- Background check
- Understanding and adherence to FERPA laws of confidentiality
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in pediatrics
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Experience in diabetes care
- Experience with seizure protocol
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
All substitute positions are on an on-call/as-needed basis. Hourly rate is dependant upon licensure. Proof of certification is required. |
